Talk:Peachtree Corners, Georgia

From Peachtree Corners

Hi, My husband and I recently moved to the Atlanta area from Raleigh, NC where community nature trails linked virtually every part of the city. Is there, or was there, any interest/future planning for a pedestrian bridge linking Jones Bridge Park to CNRA Jones Bridge in Roswell? -Kelley

  • Kelly, I think that's a cool idea. You're the first I've heard mention it. Probably the UPCCA would be a good group to help get that done. --Richard 09:20, 21 Sep 2007 (EDT)

Thank goodness cityhood for Peachtree Corners is not goona happen. We don't need more governmemt. Gwinnett County does a TERRIFIC JOB with essential services and it would take a new city years to do as well. I hate to use cliches, but if it ain't broke , don't fix it.

Hiya Brad. Welcome to Our Peachtree Corners. Perhaps you would like to start a new page to discuss cityhood? You comments may be overlooked here on the talk page. I've copied your comments here: cityhood --Richard 18:26, 25 Oct 2005 (PDT)

Changes from Original Page:

Moved "Changes to OPC" to the bottom, edited Welcome, Moved News to the top ( I think the most relevant and up to date information should be at the top, or people will lose interest quickly), Removed Weather graphic.

What do you think about moving the Location section to it's own page. Maybe a larger article explaining what Peachtree corners is, describing boundaries, etc. Qexter 10:58, 12 Jun 2006 (PDT)

Sounds good to me. I think there is room for lots of improvements to the usability of the site. I welcome change. We definately don't want people leaving because or loosing interest of becoming confused. Another thing that would improve appeal is more photos of the area on the pages. Copied replaced main page with new main page done by Qexter. Old page and history is here. Richard 18:37, 12 Jun 2006 (PDT)

Thanks for being open to changes to the main page, Richard. --Qexter 18:44, 12 Jun 2006 (PDT)

Thanks for the help! :-) Richard 18:52, 12 Jun 2006 (PDT)

Re-order News and Announcements

I'm thinking that we need a better way to arrange the Announcements and News. Right now some important News items are taking second place to some less important Announcements. I'm trying to think of ways to change this. Possibly combine them into one list where older items slowly fall toward the bottom, or somehow put the announcements in a box on the right side so more news can filter up? Any thoughts? --Richard 07:55, 19 Jul 2006 (EDT)

I've been thinking the same thing. Not only about the Announcements / News thing, but even the length of news items and how long they hang around the front page. It's a tough problem, one the one hand I feel like we should put as much as possible on the front page to make the site relevant to people who just see the front page, but on the other hand, when there's so much on the front page, everything gets hidden in the noise. Some ideas I've had are:

  • making the news / announcements as short as possible (a 5 word max title), leaving all details for the actual article
  • have a featured news item(s) and a link to a seperate news page.
  • make the front page just a view of the heirarchy of the site with links to News, Announcements, History, Community, Business (with more detail than the current top "explore" menu).

Just my thoughts, nothing decided yet. --Qexter 13:55, 19 Jul 2006 (EDT)

Server Crash

There was a server crash Saturday July 22, 2006. The systems was restored from backup and all changes since 1AM Friday July 21, 2006 were lost. Sorry for any inconvenience. --Richard 09:16, 24 Jul 2006 (EDT)

The server was down again temporarily for about 15 minutes Monday night. I suggest that until things settle down, everyone keep a copy of any big changes in a text file on their computer, just in case. Backups are done nightly but that mean we could still loose a whole days work. --Richard 22:40, 24 Jul 2006 (EDT)

How to edit the main page

The main page on the Our Peachtree Corners Wiki is a little different than most of the articles in the wiki. It is a collection of articles, as opposed to a single article. To edit the main page, you must edit one of the individual articles, which are actually "templates". Here are links to the actual templates to edit if you would like to see a change to one of the sections on the main page:

  • Edit:Announcements (http://ourpeachtreecorners.com/index.php?title=Template:Announcements&action=edit)
